20 on 20 // That’s My Jam! • The 80’s

The idea for these 20 on 20 playlists was sparked while on a weekend trip to New York last fall. One night after dinner, a group of friends and I went around the room, each selecting a song that reminded us of The 80’s. Granted we all grew up in that decade, but we all remembered it a little differently based on our own personal experiences.

Man, did we have a ball!

This music trip down memory lane went on for hours! Seriously, hours. I fell asleep at one point and woke up refreshed for another round. The songs we selected had us jumping up dancing, belting out chords that should really only be heard in the shower, and screaming, “That’s my jam!”

20 top hits from The 80's that will have you proclaiming, "That's My Jam!"

Through the course of the night, we realized The 80’s is a big, broad, general category with genres ranging from new wave to classic R&B to heavy metal and so much more. Each genre could be its own playlist. In this month’s playlist, I’ve tried to capture the spirit of that night in homage to the era of Aqua Net hairspray, pegged pants, mix tapes, the Running Man, elaborate note folding, LA Gears and spandex. (I certainly don’t miss The 80’s fashion trends!)

If you love the awesome diversity of music that is The 80’s, then this may be the playlist for you.
You can listen here on the blog or directly on Spotify. Happy listening! — v.

P.S. I skipped rap and hip hop on this playlist as I have a separate one planned — stay tuned!

The 20 on 20 series is a compilation of music playlists on Spotify.
Each playlist has a theme and consists of 20 songs released on the 20th of each month.
