My sweet niece turned 14 years old this year. Isn’t she gorgeous? I have known her since birth and can hardly believe she is a full-fledged teenager now… I’m so emoji-nal! ?
To celebrate her special day, her mom and I threw a sensational emoji-themed birthday party! #letsparty
To get the party started, I designed this invitation and my niece texted it to all her friends and family. #welcometothedigitalage
We are big on food around here, and parties are a great time to gather around a terrific spread. Her mom organized a fantastic menu featuring pancit and lumpia, cheeseburger sliders, hot dogs, chips and a beautifully decorated fruit tray.
Pink lemonade was served in glass bottles {recycled Frappuccino ones} with yellow- and white-striped paper straws. I designed the bottle wrappers and emoji party decor, which are available in the Shop.
Also available in the Shop is this emoji garland, which we strung on red and white baker’s twine and used as a doorway curtain.
For the cake, nothing says, “Celebrate!” more to me than sprinkles, and so I baked a delightful two-tiered funfetti cake with vanilla buttercream frosting.
My niece requested the Heart Eyes? emoji in fondant, and as a doting aunt, I took my first foray into using fondant. {I don’t usually decorate with it because I don’t care for the taste.} Thankfully, the cake design was simple.
I started by dying Wilton’s white, already-made fondant with red, brown and yellow icing coloring. I then printed a template of the Heart Eyes emoji, enlarged to about the size of the cake, and cut out the mouth and an eye to use as patterns. I followed the instructions on Wilton’s YouTube tutorial for covering the cake with fondant, and then placed the eyes and mouth by marking their spots with a straight pin.
Not bad for my first time, eh?
I finished off the baking with these adorable Poop ? emoji cupcakes.
They’re kinda cute, right? They were actually a huge hit! No one was at all turned off by the poop symbolism, and the chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting was too delish to resist.
Party goers received an emoji cup packed with fun stuff: ice cream sundae-shaped notepads, emoji stickers, emoji bracelets, emoji key chains, earrings and a few pieces of candy. My niece and her friends also made adorable no-sew emoji pillows from this tutorial during their sleepover.
All in all, it was a wonderfully fun party celebrating a wonderfully sweet young lady! I consider myself very fortunate to be living in the same city as my sister right now so that we can share in these kinds of celebrations together.
