“Decision is only wishful thinking until you take that first irreversible step.”
Today, I am taking that first irreversible step and writing my first blog post!
Those of you who are visiting {thank you!} may already know me, but I thought it a good idea to use this first post to properly introduce myself and tell you what this blog is all about. So without further ado:
- My name is Vernichel /ver-na-shell/. I’ve never met anyone else by that name and I don’t know how my parents came up with it. {I should really come up with a better story — share your suggestions in the comments below!} I didn’t like it much when I was young, but have since grown to appreciate and cherish the individuality of it.
- People often ask if I have a nickname. I like for friends to learn my full name, but it is a mouthful and nine letters long, so you can just call me, “V.”
- I played the clarinet during middle school and now wish I could still play. I listen to all types of music, but especially love the tunes that hit deep into the soul, transport you to another time and place or make you get down and boogie! Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Jack Johnson, Prince, Al Green, the Dixie Chicks, and Seal are some of my all-time favorites.
- I graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins {Go Rams!}, where I earned a MBA, a BS in Business Administration and a minor in Japanese. Post graduation, I packed up a U-Haul and headed east to start a new life in New York. ‘Cause if you can make it there…
- I met my husband, Sam, at a BBQ while visiting my sister over the Fourth of July holiday. I affectionately refer to him as the “Chief” in my posts, and he is a huge supporter of my dreams — this blog included. {He’s also my proofreader, so email him with typos!}
- I started this blog after buying our first home. It’s a fixer-upper for sure, but it’s ours and we can tear down the walls and rebuild them if we want. And we want to share all of those happenings with you!
- I also started this blog as a creative outlet. I’m encouraged to snap beautiful photos, create cute projects, cook delicious food and write all about it. By doing so, I hope I can in turn inspire the creative in others, too!
- One of my greatest joys is being a mother. I lucked out in the gender lottery and am blessed with a 3-year-old boy {who loves sharks} and a 1-year-old girl {who adores her big brother}. I also have a Shiba Inu named Kona who will speak for treats.
So that’s me in a nutshell — or at least a few bullet points. I hope you will subscribe to my blog and follow along with me! — v.

V is a great cook. When I visited her and her husband in Japan, she took me everywhere to eat. I found that she and I have very similar tastes, so I look forward to perusing her recipes. I learned one meal from her that we call “The wrap,” which I hope she shares with everyone. It was simple, tasty, and can feed a whole family.
Best of luck on your blog, looking forward to your success!
