How We Plan To Spend the Summer // Bucket List 2018

The school year has come to a close and my kids are now home all day, every day.

It’s a nice change to have slow, relaxed mornings. I love the laughter, energy and joy that their presence brings into our home. And they’re still at an age where they want to spend time with Mom and Dad. I want to capitalize on that, and so I created this bucket list of summer activities for our family.

Check out this Summer Bucket List for ideas to bring the family closer together, live with joy and gratitude, and make memories to look back on with fondness! #cbvsummer2018

If you know me, you know I love my lists! But rest assured that I’m not waking the kids up at the crack of dawn to get these items checked off each day. When putting this list together, I tried to focus on the activities my kids have expressed an interest in doing. I tried to balance free fun with paid entry and incorporate learning into the entertainment.

Also, we aren’t taking a family vacation this summer. Instead, we are working on the house and discovering the sights and sounds around Virginia Beach. Most of these activities are easy and require little planning. Some need a bit more investment in time and money. All are for bringing our family closer together, living with joy and gratitude, and making memories we can look back on with fondness.

So here it is:

The Landis Family Summer Bucket List 2018

  • Make homemade ice cream
  • Read 10 new books
  • Go on day hikes with Kona
  • Celebrate Shark Week
  • Have a water balloon fight
  • Spend a day at the museum (Virginia Living Museum and/or Nauticus)
  • Eat breakfast for dinner
  • Build a sand castle
  • Go camping
  • See LanternAsia at Norfolk Botanical Gardens
  • Catch a Norfolk Tides baseball game
  • Swim at Gator Pool
  • Stay in pajamas all day
  • Volunteer
  • Host a Kids Crafternoon
  • Go to the safari park or zoo
  • Celebrate my 44th birthday
  • Have a family game/movie night
  • K’s goals: learn letters and numbers
  • J’s goals: learn how to tie shoes and swim

I know there will still be lots of down days. Probably more video game and television time than I would like. Possibly even a few, “Mom, I’m bored!” thrown into the mix. But between this bucket list, the backyard playset and our landscaping projects, I think we are set for a sweet summer!
