As a crafty mom, I have crafty kids. They love to paint, draw, make and create. I remember an instance where my six-year-old son was in the midst of a huge mess — scissors in hand, teeny tiny pieces of paper everywhere, glue stick standing at the ready — and I asked what was going on… he calmly replied, “Mom, I’m an artist.”
Yes, sometimes crafting gets a little messy. Like when you can no longer see the refrigerator through the papers (and magnets).
While I am all for supporting their creative endeavors, I am also often overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of papers created at home as well as from school. I love it all and want to give each piece its proper due, but there’s only so much haphazardness this mama can handle.
If you know me, you know I’d rather DIY, but every now and again, a product just does what I need better. This is one such product. This curtain rod hack is a wonderfully simple, tidy and stylish solution.

My super cute handyman (aka hubby) skillfully mounted it level to the wall beneath my DIY chalkboard in the kitchen. I added a quote to the chalkboard that’s quite fitting for the occasion, and now we have a dedicated space to prominently and neatly display artwork!
Needless to say, this new art wall has spurred a re-awakening of creativity and both kids are producing new works specifically to hang here. It is now reserved for the “masterpieces.”
Some may ask if I’m bothered by the light switch situated behind the wire. My answer: not in the least. We don’t use it anyway, as there’s another more convenient one across the room.
We still have a ton of artwork that isn’t accommodated by this one wire, but it’s a start.
And that’s better than a pile left on the table. Or in the trash can.
So what do you think? Do you display your kids’ artwork? How do you manage paper clutter in your home? I’d love to hear more ideas. Thanks for reading! — v.
As a non-crafty mom, this may actually be something I could manage! My kids are a bit older now, but still a great way to display other pertinent “masterpieces”.
Thanks, V!!
You are so right, Renata! There are many more uses for the concept! My sister uses something similar in a closet to contain wrapping paper. Thanks so much for reading and sharing how it can be applied to your lifestyle!
