Birthdays, graduations, baby showers, weddings, anniversaries, retirements. And let’s not forget the myriad of holidays like Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and the biggie… Christmas!
Gift giving is an essential part of our lives. It strengthens our bonds with family and friends, and you get cool stuff, too! So today I am focusing on the art of gift wrapping because it brings me joy to witness a gift well received. It’s also because I adore a pretty package.
Take, for instance, Tiffany’s Blue Box. It’s a cultural icon — not just because of the luxurious item nesting inside, but also because it is beautiful to behold. Crowned with a white satin ribbon, the box holds a matching blue velvety pouch protecting a stunning piece of jewelry. Opening the box might be as exciting as receiving the item inside! And you know you’re someone very special to the person giving it to you.
That’s the power of a gift. And it all starts in its presentation.
Although we can’t all have the expert wrapping of retail stores, we can make a special effort to present our gifts in ways that demonstrate our most splendid sentiments. Give “I love you.” and “Congratulations!” in the form of glitter boxes and luxe satin ribbon. Combine plain paper with dazzling bows. Repurpose subway maps and scrapbook paper. Adorn boxes and bags with grosgrain ribbon and faux florals. Use a furoshiki or layer in mason jars. The options are as endless as your creativity.
So for a little packaging inspiration, I’ve put together a small collection of my favorite gift wrapping ideas below. You can also follow my gift giving board on Pinterest for additional ideas. I hope you’ll be inspired to create gifts that are special, beautiful and fun, and in turn, bring joy to you and your loved ones! — v.
